Game for collaboration and teamwork

KnoopPuntNL

Developed by Living Story

About the Game

At KPN, good collaboration starts with understanding each other’s work. But how do you get that across to more than 800 people without it feeling like a training?

Living Story’s answer was not a presentation or a procedure manual, but a completely new world: KnoopPuntNL. Not a simulation of a planning system, but a fictional metro network. Keeping the beating heart of a metro network running feels urgent and important right away. Players want to solve it. That is exactly where room opens up for doing, experiencing and discovering.

In KnoopPuntNL, KPN technicians and planners work together to keep the network running. Along the way, they experience how much depends on communication, coordination and insight into each other’s roles. What happened in the game was often instantly recognisable from daily practice. The most common reaction: “Ha, that’s exactly how it goes in real life.”

The reflection after each session was just as valuable as the game itself. Players realised that KnoopPuntNL was never really about metros, but about communication, trust and working together. The fictional setting gave just enough distance to look at their own work with fresh eyes.

The game was played 43 times by more than 800 participants, in former telephone exchanges across the Netherlands that were temporarily transformed into metro stations. It is one of Living Story’s largest serious game projects to date.
