About the Game
About a quarter of Dutch pupils in primary school ("groep 3", ages 6-7) find learning to read harder than their peers, or have an established risk of reading difficulties. By deploying WoordKr8 at support levels 2 and 3, you help these pupils move forward and prevent them from falling further behind. They practise letter-sound correspondences, words, sentences and texts in an engaging learning environment.
Pupils start with simple words, followed by words of increasing complexity. First single-syllable words with two-consonant clusters in one position (stap, mast), then in two positions (sport), and after that words with multiple-consonant clusters (strik, straks). Multisyllabic words and the basic spelling rules (schwa sounds, the single-consonant rule and the doubling rule) are covered next.
Pupils practise reading in several ways, both at word level and in sentence context. Innovative techniques such as the Reading Acceleration Program (RAP) are built into the programme. Pupils also practise sounding out words extensively and play exercises and games designed to strengthen phonological and orthographic awareness.
